Republican National Convention Protest: New York City

Shot at the 2004 RNC Protest in New York City, this digital video is a strangely objective document, yet its form may achieve a radical political gesture especially in comparison to the television news coverage of the same event. There is no logic in how each image is composed within each frame. The composition of each frame is random. Similarly, the progressive ordering of images is not the result of any editing strategy traditionally employed in documentary cinema. The finished piece is realized by organizing the material according to a mathematical procedure. The same sequence of frames is repeated several times but at different rates. The initial explosion of colors and forms is steadily slowed throughout the duration of the piece to reveal more to the viewer about the content of the images.
